Charles William "Billy" Hutto was peacefully called home to the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
A longtime resident of Hartsville, SC, Billy was married to the love of his life Gail Moore Hutto, for 61 years. He was a kind husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a devoted deacon, sunday school teacher, volunteer with Good News Club and Ridgecrest Conference Center and helped with VBS in his church for many years at Kelleytown Baptist Church and also in prior years at Emanuel Baptist.
Billy was born in Savannah, Georgia, to Sallie Mae and A.R. Hutto
Billy met his wife at church in Sumter, where they also were married at First Baptist Church of Sumter. The newlyweds lived in Greenville, SC, awhile before settling in Hartsville, where he retired from Sonoco Products Company. Billy also served 2 years in the US Army and was a paratrooper.
Hobbies included restoration of his 1931 Ford Model A, and enjoying family camping trips.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Robert Edward Hutto.
Billy is survived by in addition to his wife Gail Moore Hutto; daughters Karen Hutto Devine (Mac), of Clemson; Krystal Hutto Thomas (Keith), of Anderson and grandsons Wes Devine, Josh Thomas, Scott Devine and Hampton Thomas. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Noles of Lexington.
Billy will be missed as he was a strong force of calm and humor to the people who knew him best and he was always able to converse easily with anyone he met.
A celebration of Billy's life and his love of the Lord will be Friday, August 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., Kelleytown Baptist in Hartsville; visitation and internment will be following the service. Burial to be in Kelleytown Cemetery.
Donations in Billy's honor can be made to Kelleytown Baptist Church, at 2609 Kelleytown Rd, Hartsville, SC 29550 where he was a member.
