Carolyn Adams Stokes, 91, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 27,2021. She was born on March 24, 1931 in Hartsville, SC to James Amos and Nora (O’Neal) Adams. She was preceded in death by Ervin Lee Stoke, her husband of 71 years.
Mrs. Stokes was a member of New Providence Baptist Church where she served in many capacities throughout her lifetime. She was a loving and devoted mother to her five children. She is survived by two daughters, Renee Stokes Teal of Florence and Kathy F. Stokes of Hartsville and two sons, Dennis L. Stokes and Mark I. Stokes, both of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Michael E. Stokes of Hartsville.
She was a source of encouragement, strength and grace to her three grandchildren, Shawn Renee Teal of Florence, Bradley Len (Sonya) Teal of Hartsville and Blake I. Stokes of Hartsville. She was also loved by three great-grandchildren, Savannah Lyn Teal, Jenna Elizabeth Teal and Charles (Charlie) Braden Teal of McBee. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Carolyn cherished her relationships with family and friends. She spent hours over the years keeping up with her brothers and sister with many long-distance phone calls. She was the youngest of six close-knit siblings and was preceded in death by Rev. James (Juanita) Adams, Cecil Samuel Adams, Thomas Edwin (Lola) Adams, Rev. Gary (Ruth) Adams and Fayedene (Jack) Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Norton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at a later time. Rev. Bruce Adams and Rev. Charlie Short will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The Stokes family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Louis Edward and his team at My House Call Doctor. Also, much appreciation to Agape Hospice for their care and support during their mother’s final days.
The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to New Providence Baptist Church of Hartsville or the Darlington Humane Society.
