Billy was born in Hartsville a son of the late George L. and Minnie Johnson. He was a top rated regional sales manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance for over 20 years and managed offices all across the nation before he started his real estate business of homes and apartments in Hartsville, S.C. Billy Johnson was a patriot who loved his country, and served in the Navy during the Korean War, following in his fathers foot steps who also served in the Navy during World War 2. Billy loved playing the piano, and also writing Christian articles for the local Hartsville news papers.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Morrow Johnson and his children.
