Bascom Tyner

January 9, 1942 — May 20, 2014

Bascom Edward Tyner, age 72, was called home by his Lord on May 20, 2014 after a long valiant struggle. Our Lord said that he had finished his battle and it was time for him to come home. Bascom was at home with his loved ones. Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, directed by Norton Funeral Home of Hartsville, SC. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville. Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Norton Funeral Home. Bascom was born in Darlington County, SC, the son of the late Edward Alexander and Lottie Register Tyner. Bascom was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Bus Captain over the years. He was an active member of the Keenagers (the seniors group) at Emmanuel and enjoyed his Life Group and church services each Sunday Morning and Sunday night as well as Wednesday Night Services as long as he could physically make it.Bascom graduated from Lamar High School, Lamar, SC and played football for the Lamar Silver Foxes. He continued through the years to follow the team with great interest.Bascom started his working career as a barber with Jim Griffith, then decided to go to work with Winn-Dixie, then A&P Food Store until they left Hartsville and then spent the rest of his career, until he had to retire due to health, with IGA Food Stores as the Market Manager.Bascom is survived by his wife, Suzette Pearson Tyner, to whom he would have been married to for fifty years in August of this year. They were indeed blessed in having two daughters and sons-in-laws, Virginia (Joel) Watts of Lexington, SC and Michele (Lee) Warren of Saluda, NC. Anyone knowing Bascom was aware of how important his family was to him and how much he loved and enjoyed each one.He is also survived by five grandchildren that he enjoyed being around and was very proud of in their individual accomplishments, Danielle McCrae Watts -Johnson and Sterling Edward Watts -Johnson of Lexington, SC and Ciara Brooke Warren, Halee Elizabeth Warren and Tyner Lee Warren of Saluda, NC.Also surviving is one brother John C. Tyner (Anice) of Darlington, SC. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Aubrey Elias (Bill) Tyner (Virginia) of North Charleston, SC and Troy Sidney (Jean) Tyner of Darlington, SC.Bascom also had many nephews and nieces (and spouses) and great nephews and great-nieces that he was very close to.Bascom will also be missed greatly by his little beagle Missy, who in the last few years missed him being able to get on the floor to play with her and take her for long walks.A huge thank you from the family to Dr. Jimmy Bell and his staff for their loving care of Bascom.Also a thank you to his long time Neurologist at CMC Movement Disorder Center in Charlotte NC. Dr. Danielle Englert and her nurse Brandy Dillard.Also thank you to Hospice Care of South Carolina who really became friends during his illness. Thank you to his occasional caregiver Tanisha Pendergrass whose loving care was truly appreciated.Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to our loving friends and family who have stood by Bascom's side and loved and encouraged him.Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church 949 N.
