Allen Byrd

Mr. Allen Byrd, age 76 passed away Saturday March 4, 2023 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Byrd was born June 11, 1946 in the Byrdtown Community of Darlington County to the late Geter and Ella Mae Hodge Byrd.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Russell Gainey will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 12:00 – 2:00pm at Norton Funeral Home, other times the family will be meeting at 1115 Daisy Street, Darlington, SC.

Mr. Byrd retired from Sonoco Products Company after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a man that loved the outdoors and all types of hunting and loved to farm on the family farm in Byrdtown, and could be found everyday out at the farm caring for the dogs he loved so much.

Left to cherish his memory is a daughter, Sherrie Byrd of Hartsville; one son, Tim (Sandy) Byrd of Darlington; granddaughters, Tori Byrd and Taylor Byrd of Darlington; sisters, Nancy Craig of Georgia, Lola Tice of Society Hill; brother, Danny Byrd of Society Hill and many nieces and nephews that he loved.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Byrd; one sister Sherry Amerson; four brothers Dick Byrd, Lorrain Byrd, Jerry Byrd and Claude Byrd.
