It is with great sadness that we lost a loving husband, father, Poppie, son, uncle (Unk) and brother. Alexander (Andy) Morrison Sumner, Jr. was known for having a heart of gold and was always willing to help those in need. He was born in Dovesville and resided in Hartsville, SC with his wife of 36 years. He was the son of Katharine Sumner and the late Alex Sumner.
Andy enjoyed spending time with his family and was always there for everyone including strangers. He loved his family more than anything and it showed in more ways than one. He was kind, compassionate, courageous, empathic and strong. He was the hero of our family.
His passions were hunting, his dogs, fixing things, playing cards and dice, spending time with his grandkids, traveling, coaching softball, and spreading love to all of those around him no matter their background or status quo. When he made up his mind to do something, he wouldn’t stop until he got it figured out. He loved Jesus and raised his children to do the same. He enjoyed watching movies with his family and was always recommending new shows and movies to his children. He loved music and his favorite band was Pink Floyd. Him and his daughter would ride around listening to them with the volume turned all the way up and singing together.
He is proceeded in death by his father (Alex Sumner) and brother (Henry Sumner).
Left to honor his memory are his wife (Christy Sumner); children, Marcie Sumner (Chip Sams), Candice Lambert (JT) and Josh Sumner (Morgan); his grandchildren Braden James, Jaxson Taylor, Luna Taylor, Emery River Sams and Katharine Olivia Sumner; siblings Martha Taylor and Larry Sumner (Kim); sister-in-law Kim Braddock and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in memory of Andy on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 2:00pm from the New Market United Methodist Church. A visitation of remembrance will be held following the services in the Fellowship Hall at New Market. The family is meeting at the family home, 1853 Docs Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Norton Funeral Home and Crematory are honored to be of service to the Sumner family.
