Ada Margaret “Mot” Copeland Ellen, 92, of Bishopville, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016. She is the daughter of the late William Wallace Copeland Sr. and the late Martha E. Copeland. She is predeceased by her sister, Doris Jean Fields. She was born in Manning and grew up in Lamar until she moved to Bishopville in 1951. She attended both Lander University and Columbia College. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the Eva Woodham Missionary Circle and taught Sunday school for years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a Cub Scout Den leader. She loved traveling and enjoyed her 76th birthday in Edinburgh, Scotland, where her husband served in WWII. As an avid Gamecock fan, she loved attending USC football games and tailgating with family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at their Lake Wateree home.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, William McGill Ellen; two sons, William Monroe (Jackie) and Robert McGill (Dawn); and a daughter, Elizabeth Ellen Owen (Paul). Also surviving are her grandchildren; Hannah Ellen Amell (Jared), Gretchen Ellen Jordan (Steven), Mary Margaret Ellen, Heath Owen, Justin Owen, Mac Ellen, Sydney Ellen, and Copeland Ellen; and her 4 great grandchildren; Cade, Ellie, and Reid Amell, and Monroe Jordan. She also leaves behind her brother, William Wallace “Billy” Copeland Jr. (Gayle), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was a loving wife and mother, who put her faith and her family above all else.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to caregiver Jean Jones; and to Carmella White and niece Kaye James, both of Blue Ridge Hospice.
The family will welcome friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Norton Funeral Home in Bishopville. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bishopville. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville.
